How to Swaddle a Baby

Today we're answering one of your most asked questions; just how exactly do you swaddle your baby? But firstly, what is swaddling, anyway?

What is Swaddling?

Swaddling is a technique used to wrap a baby snugly in a blanket to help them feel safe and secure. Swaddling has many benefits, including:

  1. Comfort: Swaddling can help a baby feel safe and secure, mimicking the feeling of being in the womb. This can help them to settle and fall asleep more easily.
  2. Improved sleep: Swaddling can help to reduce the startle reflex that can wake a baby during sleep, allowing for longer, more restful sleep.
  3. Reduced crying: Swaddling can help to soothe a fussy or crying baby and reduce their levels of stress.
  4. Improved digestion: Swaddling can help to calm a baby's movements, reducing the discomfort associated with colic or reflux.
  5. Eased transition: Swaddling can help a baby adjust to the sensation of being outside of the womb and provide a sense of security and comfort during the transition.
  6. Convenience for parents: Swaddling can make it easier for parents to hold and transport their baby, as well as make it easier to change their diaper.

Important: Keep in mind that swaddling should be discontinued as soon as a baby starts to show signs of rolling over or breaking out of the swaddle, as this can pose a safety risk.

How to Swaddle Your Baby

  1. Lay out a large, flat blanket on a flat surface. We recommend the Miracle Blanket Swaddle!
  2. Fold the top corner of the blanket down to form a triangle.
  3. Place your baby on the blanket with their head just above the folded corner.
  4. Take the left side of the blanket and wrap it snugly across your baby's body, tucking it under the baby's right arm.
  5. Take the bottom corner of the blanket and fold it up over your baby's feet, ensuring they are wrapped snugly but not too tightly.
  6. Take the right side of the blanket and wrap it over your baby's body, tucking it under their left arm.
  7. Check that the swaddle is snug but not too tight, and that your baby's hips have room to move. You should be able to place a couple of fingers between the baby and the blanket.
